LP® Environmental Sustainability & Performance

Sustainability

Sustainability is a key part of LP’s environmental  commitment. To protect resources for future generations, we aggressively pursue opportunities that increase efficiency, turn waste into energy, and decrease greenhouse gas emissions.

For us, sustainability means more than just responsible forestry. Sustainability means utilization and protection of resources, as well as contributing to our success when developing new products.  It includes:

  • Forestry Practices
  • Certification Standards
  • Community Interaction
This commitment involves and encourages employees to take responsibility for their actions because they understand the positive effects of sustainability on the company and  their communities.

Performance

Environmental Management System Implementation
LP developed and began implementing our environmental management system EMS in the mid-1990s.  We created a framework each facility could use to develop a customized EMS that meets company environmental standards and operating requirements.  Our goal in 2005 is to have 100% of our North America manufacturing facilities maintaining fully implemented environmental management systems.

Significant Reductions in Notices of Violation
Environmental regulations can be complex and challenging. As a result of extensive environmental training and operational improvements from our Environmental Management System, we have seen significant improvements in environmental performance.
