LP® Sustainable Forestry

LP believes responsible environmental policy and sound business practices can be integrated to the benefit of not only the environment, but also the companies, stakeholders, customers and people they were developed to serve.

LP follows strict standards to help ensure sustainability. We practice prompt reforestation, soil conservation, riparian protection, proper utilization and forest health on the forest lands that we own or manage. We follow applicable standards to protect water quality, fish and wildlife habitats, and standards to ensure ecological, historical and cultural sites such as interpretive trails, bird sanctuaries, and unique forest types are protected.  We encourage our neighbors and business partners to practice responsible forest management as well.

LP recognizes that there are several credible certification standards available in North America including The American Tree Farm System (ATFS), The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and The Canadian Standards Association (CSA). LP has chosen to participate in the SFI standard because we feel it best addresses the issue of sustainability on private family forestlands, where most of the wood in our products originate.

LP has made a commitment to participate in the SFI program and independent third-party certification of our Forest Resource Division operations in North America.LP’s Environmental Management System has been fully integrated into our sustainable forestry program.
