Moulding

Beautiful Results
Really Are Easy

That’s because working with LP® Moulding is simple. It applies easily, even to slightly imperfect walls. It’s free of knots or voids and resists the warping and splitting associated with traditional wood mouldings. And every piece of LP Moulding is manufactured to be consistent, making every piece one you can use.

Plan

  1. Get inspired and choose a style from the LP Moulding Gallery.
  2. Estimate how much moulding you need to purchase for your project, then buy it from a local retail outlet.
  3. When you bring your moulding home, acclimate it to room temperature for 24 hours.
  4. Gather up the tools and materials you’ll need.

Prep

  1. Measure and cut your moulding. For long walls, measure the moulding so that any joints meet over a wall stud (known as splicing). There are a few different ways to cut moulding, and some very handy tools you might consider (a mitering box, for example).
  2. Paint, if you choose, your LP moulding before attaching it to the wall, but after you cut it. It is easier to touch up the painted moulding, once it is installed. Make sure you follow directions, including drying times, on the paint can.
  3. Lay the cut moulding near the wall where it will hang after cutting each piece. Because after cutting several pieces, it’s easy to forget which piece goes where.

Hang

  1. Since no wall or ceiling is perfectly square, determine the height on the wall for chair rails or caps (if you’re using them). Then use a level and a pencil to trace a line around the room as a guide for hanging.
  2. Start hanging from any corner in the room and nail in place. All LP Moulding can be nailed without the need for pre-drilling. Drive finishing nails to within 1/4” of the surface of the moulding to prevent denting. Drive nails below moulding face with the appropriate sized nail set. Fill nail holes with caulk or wood putty. (Want to use fewer nails? Consider an adhesive.)
  3. All joints and splices may be filled with caulk, if desired. On crown mouldings, it’s helpful to add a bead of caulk along the ceiling edge to hide imperfections.
