At the end of 2010, LP had 3839 employees, compared to 3956 at 2009 year-end.
In the US, 15% of the LP workforce claimed minority status in 2008, 13% in 2009, and 13% in 2010. In 2008, the female population was 17% of the workforce; in 2009, 16%; and in 2010, 15%. These figures are consistent with workforce composition in the forest products industry. 26% of our workforce belonged to unions in 2007, about 25% in 2008 and 2009, and 21% in 2010, all of these in Canada. Including South America, about 30% of the company’s employees belonged to unions.
Employee voluntary and involuntary turnover, excluding termination at locations after closure announcements, was slightly more than 22.7% in 2008. In 2009, LP had 25.9% voluntary and involuntary turnover, excluding facility closure terminations. In 2010, the turnover rates fell to just under 5%.
We maintain strict compliance with all federal, state and provincial
labor laws, including laws related to child labor, labor relations,
harassment and non-discrimination.
LP’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, which all employees must sign upon employment, outlines these policies and grievance procedures. Employees are encouraged to talk to their supervisors about any
illegal or unethical practices in the workplace. If they do not wish to
speak with their supervisor, they may use our LP confidential telephone
line, anonymously if preferred, to report issues of any kind.
